GOLD Stars
GOLD Stars, an acronym for Greater Opportunities for Learning Daily, is a before-and-after-school program that, with the support of the school, parents and community, provides a safe haven for students where they can improve themselves academically, socially, emotionally, and physically. Community volunteers and organizations deliver an array of enrichment activities at 5 selected sites.

GOLD Star Activities
There are a number of enrichment activities that a volunteer can do. Here are some examples:
  • Tutor Kids in Reading or Math
  • Engage Students in Art, Music, Science, and Going Green
  • Engage Kids in Healthy Eating Habits.
  • Provide Career Presentations
  • Play games and Read books
  • Help students learn about school safety


Needs

PENCIL works with the following schools to provide enrichment activities and tutoring for students:

Elementary Schools
Grades 2, 3 and 4
Cole Elementary
Glenview Elementary
*Napier Elementary
 
Enrichment Activities: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday between the hours of 3:20 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.
*Napier 4:30 p.m. – 5:45 p.m.

Middle Schools
Grades 5-8
Donelson Middle
Wright Middle
 
Enrichment Activities: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday between the hours of 4:30 p.m. – 5:45 p.m.


Volunteers are needed at both elementary and middle schools to plan and engage in enrichment activities after school

Volunteers are needed as homework helpers Monday and Tuesday mornings, 7:30 – 8:30 a.m. at middle schools
